French Grunt (Haemulon flavolineatum)
Description:
The French Grunt have bright yellow lines going horizontally down with a couple black stripes as well. As they grow to maturity the brown stripe will fade. As adults, they can grow in length up to a foot in total length.
Indigenous to:
Found in the western Atlantic Ocean off Bermuda, South Carolina, and the northern Gulf of Mexico to Brazil, including the coasts of Central America and throughout the West Indies.
Behavior:
French Grunts like to be in schools. Like to live near rocky surfaces, coral reefs, seagrass beds and lagoons.
Compatibility:
Usually ignores corals but will eat fishes and other invertebrates.
Food:
Proaquatix specimens have been weaned to take aquarium pellets and flakes. Freshly frozen invertebrates such as ocean plankton, Mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped squid will be readily accepted.
